Poway, Calif., the home of baseball Hall of Famer and all-around food lover Tony Gwynn, is close to securing its own In-N-Out, according to the North County Times. The burger chain is reportedly eyeing an empty parcel on the corner of Scripps Poway Parkway and Community Road. The news is sure to peeve residents of nearby Escondido, which has been yearning for its own In-N-Out ever since negotiations with the chain fell apart in 1991.

In-N-Out Steps Up Invasion Of Utah

After last week’s news that In-N-Out is opening a second Utah location, it comes as no surprise that even more restaurants are being planned for the state. After all, as In-N-Out spokesman Carl Van Fleet told the Salt Lake Tribune, the company’s trucks will already be delivering fresh meat, so why not make those trips more worthwhile? According to the Tribune, paperwork has been filed for restaurants in West Valley City and West Jordan. Layton and Orem were mentioned as other possible future locations.

In related news, the Daily Herald reports that American Fork will also get an In-N-Out in the near future — a surprise that came to light during a recent planning commission meeting. Coincidentally, American Fork is also home to Chadder’s, the burger joint In-N-Out sued in 2007. In-N-Out accused the restaurant of ripping off its look and menu.

Northern Utah In-N-Out Might Skip Palm Trees

Utah’s second In-N-Out will open later this year in Draper, which sits south of Salt Lake City and north of Provo. Because of its location in ski country, there’s concern that the company’s iconic crossed palm trees won’t survive, chain spokesman Carl Van Fleet told the Deseret News. When reporter Jacob Hancock (jokingly?) suggested crossed oak trees, Van Fleet replied, “I don’t think so.”

The state’s first In-N-Out opened last year in the city of Washington. It’s hundreds of miles south of Draper, but the company appears to have skipped the palm trees there too, judging by photos of the location on flickr: Exhibit A, Exhibit B, Exhibit C, Exhibit D.

The Draper In-N-Out is scheduled to open in late summer or early fall.

In-N-Out Sues Utah Copycat

June 19, 2007

In-N-Out has filed a trademark-infringement lawsuit against an American Fork, Utah, burger joint named Chadder’s, which is allegedly ripping off In-N-Out’s look and its menu, the Orange County Register reports. Judging by these YouTube clips, it would appear In-N-Out has a pretty good case:
